This canna-cranberry + rosemary-infused medicated mocktail sings with holiday spirit & is perfect for bottling in batches.

There are more ways to consume cannabis than combustion or traditional edibles. Healthy cannabis is finding its way into mainstream products like cosmetics, gourmet edibles, and even drinkables. But you don’t have to wait for these new-ish products to show up at your local dispensary to enjoy their benefits. The base of this medicated mocktail is a rosemary-infused cannabis simple syrup that’s incredibly easy to make at home. Once on hand, this psychoactive sweetener can be used to spruce up all kinds of concoctions and confections.

You can always leave out the cannabis or use a high CBD and low THC strain for an equally delicious non-psychoactive holiday drink that can be made in advance and stored in the refrigerator for up to a week. In addition to the infused simple syrup, we’ll also outline how to make a festive sugared canna-cranberry garnish that will NOT contain active THC but will add to the aromatics of the libation.

Cannabis & Rosemary-infused Simple Syrup Instructions:

Infused Simple Syrup Ingredients:

  • 2 cups filtered water (for best results, filter at least twice to remove impurities).
  • 2 cups granulated sugar (white or brown, depending on desired flavor and usage).
  • 2 grams of finely ground organic cannabis (you can always omit or use a high CBD strain)(Calculations based on a 20% THC strain).
  • 2 tbsp vegetable glycerin (available on Amazon or at your local health food store).

Step 1

Measure out equal parts sugar and water. Add water to a large pot and bring to a low boil. Once your water begins to bubble, mix in your preferred organic cannabis and stir in the sugar until all the crystals are dissolved.

Step 2

Lower the temperature to medium, add the vegetable glycerin, and let simmer for an additional 5-6 minutes (stirring once every 45- 60 seconds). This will help give the cannabinoids something to bond with. Some people skip this step but I find it really does help with the final product.

Note: Be careful not to get the liquid past an internal temperature of 250° F or let it boil over. When cannabis is heated it goes through a chemical process called decarboxylation that activates the THC, but if the temperature gets too high you will damage the THC.

Step 3

Carefully strain cannabis into a heat-resistant container or mason jar, add 4-5 fresh rosemary sprigs, and let steep for about 1.5-2 hours before removing the rosemary sprigs (let cool to room temperature before using).

The final yield should be close to 24 oz, which is enough to make 12 moderately-dosed cannabis beverages (2 oz each), containing approximately 10-15 milligrams of THC per serving (depending on the potency of the cannabis used).

Sugared Canna-cranberries Instructions:

Canna-cranberries Garnish Ingredients:

  • 1-2 grams fragrant organic cannabis
  • 1/2 cup water (preferably filtered)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 cups fresh cranberries
  • 1-1/2 cups granulated sugar, for rolling

Step 1

Heat equal parts water and sugar in a sauce pot over medium heat (stir occasionally until the sugar is dissolved).

Step 2

Barely bring to a boil and add cranberries (make sure cranberries are completely coated). Remove from the heat, and use a slotted spoon to transfer the cranberries to the baking sheet and cool for 1 hour.

Step 3

Add sugar and 1-2 grams of fresh cannabis to a food processor or blender and pulse until roughly blended to meld aromatics into the sugar.

Step 4

Pour your newly created aromatic canna-sugar into a bowl and roll the cranberries until completely coated. Set aside and keep away from moisture until ready for use.

Canna-cranberry + Rosemary-infused Medicated Mocktail Final Preparation:

Medicated Mocktail Ingredients (non-alcoholic):

  • 2 parts rosemary-infused cannabis simple syrup
  • 1 part fresh mandarin or orange juice
  • 1 part fresh lemon juice
  • 3 parts cranberry juice (look for 100% juice, no sugar added)
  • Splash of soda of water
  • Sugared canna-cranberries, rosemary sprigs, and mandarin slices (for garnish)

Step 1

Add all ingredients to a mixing glass (except for the soda water) and fill with ice.

Step 2

Stir and strain into a whiskey or high-ball glass filled with cubed ice.

Step 3

Top with a splash of soda water and garnish with a citrus slice, a sprig of fresh thyme, and a handful of the canna-sugared cranberries.

Step 4

Serve and enjoy slowly and responsibly (contains approximately 10-15 milligrams of THC per glass, depending on the potency of cannabis used).

This tasty cannabis infused drink is sure to add a festive punch of color to any holiday gathering and is ideal for making in bulk and/or bottling as adult gifts. Feel free to get creative and mix-and match flavor profiles by swapping out the rosemary for mint or fresh pine needles to create your own renditions or simply follow the recipe above for a delicious seasonal adult beverage.
